As I sat down to create this post, I told myself don’t put off until tomorrow, what you can do today. How fitting since today’s tip addresses cliches. The extraordinary wordsmith that I’d like to believe myself to be :-), to my surprise I used the following cliches over the course of one day:
- Time will tell.
- What goes around comes around.
- Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
- Consider the source.
THINK ABOUT IT: IN YOUR DAILY CONVERSATIONS DO YOU RELY ON CLICHES? DO CLICHES CREEP INTO YOUR WORK IN PROGRESS? DO CLICHES END UP IN YOUR FINAL MANUSCRIPT? POST A FEW OF YOUR MOST USED CLICHES.
Most of us use cliches. When editing your work consider the source. Is that brilliant prose original or so cliche?
